The results speak for themselves: AI agents initiated 16.2 million transfers via the X402 protocol over the last 30 days, with Base leading at 9.5 million transfers and Polygon contributing approximately 5.5 million.

"The last one I did was an obscure flower API provider in the Midwest somewhere. They were excited about it but didn't have the engineering expertise. So I wrapped it for themāliterally took me 1 hour. And now your Claude has access to flowers, and you can send them to your wife or girlfriend or whatever."
This is a two-sided marketplace problem: on the supply side, any API provider can integrate X402 quickly. On the demand side, consumers and agents need wallets, stablecoin balances, and a basic understanding of the infrastructure.

As this ecosystem develops, two competing visions are emerging:
1. The Closed Approach: Large AI platforms like OpenAI or Anthropic could build proprietary payment systems into their ecosystems. "I have a German debit cardāit doesn't work here. I live in New York, and most on-ramps don't work here, especially on the business side. We're working very hard to make this easier."

"I'm going to Paris for a week. I give my agent $2,000 and it goes off and books everything: the flight, the hotel, restaurant reservations. You can do restaurant reservations through X402. It basically sets all of that up for you."
This is the future of agentic commerce: high-level goals executed autonomously, with agents managing budgets, making trade-offs, and transacting across dozens of servicesāall without human intervention.
Other emerging use cases include:
- API aggregation: Agents accessing Twitter, LinkedIn, Apollo, and other data sources without needing separate subscriptions
- E-commerce automation: Buying physical goods from Amazon or other retailers directly through conversational interfaces
- Domain registration and hosting: Agents spinning up websites, purchasing domains, and managing infrastructure
The common thread is pay-per-use rather than subscription-based access. This shift could fundamentally change SaaS economics, moving from monthly recurring revenue to usage-based microtransactions.
